Preventative Care

Preventative dentistry is one of the best ways to help your child maintain a healthy smile and avoid dental problems. Preventative care can save your child from severe toothaches, bad dental experiences, and extensive treatment. Consistent dental check-ups will help your child feel more comfortable throughout their dental visits and provide the tools they need to maintain a healthy smile! If you are searching for a pediatric dentist in Lebanon, PA, our office offers the only dental team in the area designed to work specifically with children. We invite you to see what all the buzz is about and schedule a dental visit for your child today!

Exams & X-Rays

Our team will perform a complete exam and any necessary digital x-rays during your child’s routine dental visit. During the examination, the dentist will look for cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems. While x-rays aren’t performed at every appointment, they do help us assess your child’s growth and dental development, as well as discover cavities or infections that aren’t visible during examination. If any dental issues are detected, your child’s dentist will discuss treatment options with you, and we’ll set up a follow-up appointment. Otherwise, we recommend that your child come in for a regular checkup every six months.

Cleanings

A professional cleaning every six months is recommended to remove plaque and tartar buildup. By consistently scheduling cleanings, your child’s smile can stay healthy and strong. A dental cleaning helps strengthen not only your child’s teeth but also their gums. By thoroughly cleaning your child’s smile, our team can help them avoid decay and other dental problems.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver diamine fluoride is a topical medication that is painted on the tooth to arrest or
stop cavities from getting bigger. While the fluoride strengthens the tooth, the silver stops the
bacteria in the mouth that is contributing to the developing cavity. This is considered a
minimally-invasive and conservative treatment option.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are recommended to protect the adult molars from unnecessary decay. Sealants are a tooth-colored coating applied to the back teeth to protect the deep crevices and hard-to-reach areas. Once applied, dental sealants are made to last for several years. This is often helpful for children as they are learning to brush their teeth.

Space Maintainers

If a baby tooth is lost early, the neighboring teeth may move or tilt into the open space.
This may cause issues with crowding and alignment of your child’s teeth. A space maintainer
is a metal appliance that prevents other teeth from moving and allows the adult teeth to erupt
into its proper position. This reduces the chance of severe orthodontic issues in the future.

Parent Involvement in Pediatric Care

At Little Bee’s Pediatric Dentistry, we encourage parents to be part of the entire dental process. From educating parents in their child’s dental development to discussing the best treatment options, our team invites you to participate every step of the way. By having you involved in the process, you and your child can feel more comfortable about your child’s overall dental experience. Preventative care is one way parents can participate by consistently scheduling dental check-ups, allowing our team to consistently care for their child’s smile!
